Chris Hahn, the Headmaster of Prince of Peace Christian School & Early Learning Center (POPCS), has been awarded the 2015 Distinguished Administrator Award from the Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA), recognizing excellence in music education administration across Texas private schools.
Every year, TPSMEA allows its members to nominate educational leaders, such as Principals or Headmasters, who have shown exceptional dedication to advancing music education, alongside a broader commitment to the arts. Award nominees must demonstrate outstanding support for the arts through their philosophy, enhancements in program delivery, attention to logistics such as space and scheduling, continued professional development initiatives for their staff, and efforts in securing financial backing.
David Lang, the band director at POPCS, put forward Hahn’s nomination. Music educators like Lang understand the vital role that school leaders play in fostering effective music programs. “Mr. Hahn has been a great asset to our Fine Arts Department at Prince of Peace Christian. He recognizes the significance of arts in education and actively supports our programs in band, theater, choir, and visual arts,” said Lang. “Thanks to his enthusiasm, our programs have had the chance to thrive and excel.”
Under Hahn’s leadership, the new Fine Arts Center opened in 2010 at Prince of Peace Christian. The impressive 35,000-square-foot facility boasts a 500-seat theater, a band hall, private rehearsal spaces, a dressing and make-up room, a costume center, a music and choral room, and an art gallery and studio. Additionally, in the fall of 2014, the music programs expanded significantly with the introduction of The Arts School, which offers after-school private music lessons for around 150 students in instruments such as violin, piano, guitar, voice, percussion, and brass-wind instruments.
Since 2003, Hahn has been the Headmaster at Prince of Peace, having started his journey at the school as a teacher and coach in 1990.
In April, Prince of Peace Christian School will showcase its annual spring musical, Fiddler on the Roof. Performances are scheduled for Friday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, April 10 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. The community is invited to attend, with ticket prices ranging from $8 to $15.
