DART Contest Honors Young Artists

By Tricia White

On Saturday, May 8, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) honored the achievements of young artists during the DART Student Art Contest Awards Ceremony held at the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA).

This year, Collin Chon, a fifth grader from Greenhill School in Addison, took home the Best of Show award. His artwork, which reflects the theme “Everyday Heroes Ride DART,” was chosen from an impressive pool of 688 entries submitted by students ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade. This year’s contest celebrated various heroes, particularly those who have positively influenced our community throughout the pandemic – individuals who exemplify heroism in their everyday actions.

The DART Student Art Contest is a longstanding tradition, now in its 23rd year, aimed at fostering public transportation awareness. It receives support from community partners including the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Contemporary, and Half Price Books, as well as media affiliates like Al Día, Dallas Morning News, DFW Child, DFW Kids Directory, Local Profile, NBC 5, and Telemundo 39.

The showcased artworks will be displayed across DART rail stations, buses, and trains, as well as at the Dallas Museum of Art, Love Field Airport, and on DART’s official website, DART.org.
