Sheryl-Pidgeon-Featured1Like many, I find myself grappling with the vast implications of the Coronavirus pandemic. I often describe my feelings using the term “surreal,” yet the reality is unmistakably present.

As adults strive to navigate this crisis—wearing masks and gloves, sanitizing ourselves and our groceries, cancelling summer getaways, and managing a plethora of uncertainties—our children are also feeling the weight of their new normal. While they slowly adapt to these changes and learn the importance of health above all else, the experiences they previously enjoyed are now mere memories. Perhaps the most challenging aspect isn’t the loss of activities but the absence of camaraderie; the joy of sharing moments with family, friends, and community has diminished significantly.

For optimists like myself, there are silver linings to uncover: spending additional time with the kids, enjoying long walks, reflecting on what truly holds significance in life. Yet, experts suggest that one of the most effective ways to support our children is simply by listening and validating their emotions, rather than attempting to immediately solve their problems.

As parents, we are facing our own challenges—job instability or unemployment, the inability to connect with aging parents, managing homeschooling, organizing our homes, preparing nutritious meals, and grappling with fears of losing loved ones, alongside a host of other emotions that many of you understand. We have a responsibility to guide our children through this tempest, to identify positives, and to remain resilient. Just as airlines advise during in-flight emergencies, “Put your mask on first and then assist those around you.” We must maintain our composure for our children’s sake. Even when we feel the urge to crumble, we cannot do so if we hope to lead our families safely through these uncharted waters, emerging stronger and more resilient—if not entirely unscathed.

At Rodrigosaffiliates Magazine, we have reached out to a variety of experts for insights, and they have generously shared their responses. While you turn to traditional news sources for daily updates, we aspire for our content to serve as a helpful resource in your daily life.

Significant changes have occurred within our organization; for instance, we transitioned away from our print edition in March, choosing instead to enhance our website with daily updates, timely advice, and a weekly e-newsletter. We are also excited to announce the launch of a GLF podcast in July, which will feature insights from our experts. While we have made necessary cutbacks to sustain our operations, we are proud to keep our content completely FREE for the public, allowing us to amplify vital news and information that benefits our readers, viewers, and soon, listeners, as we join together VIRTUALLY on this wild journey.

We invite you to share your expertise, thoughts, and inspirations with us. Your input is valuable! Moreover, if you offer a product, service, or expertise that supports “sandwich generation” parents, we encourage you to consider becoming an advertiser or sponsor. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship where we can promote your offerings while fulfilling our commitment to help families improve their lives.

LIVE. LEARN. LAUGH. REPEAT.
